This extensive collection of phonemic awareness activities may be one of the most helpful instructional tools at your disposal as you work with your young reader(s). It should be pointed out that while this book of activities can be used by itself, it was written as part two of a comprehensive phonemic awareness portfolio, designed to both test your student’s strengths and weaknesses in phonemic awareness, and also provide an extensive collection of activities that target each of those skills. Most people purchase both the test booklet and the activity book, and so that will be the assumption as we discuss the use of this activity book. You will note that the assessment booklet lists 21 skills, ranging from those appropriate to children at the kindergarten level up to those at a second grade level. Those grade-level assignments represent a kind of ideal that may or may not reflect your child’s normal development. Some will master a skill early and falter on a later skill. Some children, especially those with various learning disabilities, will labor with various skills well past the second grade
